Title: Toyota International Teacher Program
Body: From: http://www.ncela.gwu.edu/enews/2004/1102.htm#Toyota Applications Invited for Toyota International Teacher Program Deadline: January 10, 2005 [Source: RFP Bulletin (October 29, 2004)] Now in its seventh year, the Toyota International Teacher Program offers teachers a chance to learn about Japan's culture, history, and education system, as well as its approach to issues such as technology and the environment. For the 2005 program, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. will send sixty high school teachers on a fully funded, two-week cultural/educational study program to Japan. The program is administered by the Institute of International Education (http://iie.org/). The program will take place June 24 through July 11, 2005, and includes travel time, two nights in Los Angeles for pre-departure orientation, and fourteen nights in Japan. Direct costs of participation (transportation, lodging, and meals) will be paid by Toyota. Teachers will be selected from states where Toyota has major facilities: Alabama, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, and West Virginia. This year the opportunity has also been expanded into New York and Washington, D.C. Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for participation: be a U.S. citizen at the time of application; be employed full-time as a secondary school teacher (grades 9-12); work in one of the eligible states; have a minimum of three years' full-time teaching experience at the time of application; and expect to continue teaching at the high school level through at least the 2005-06 school year. Body: From: http://www.ncela.gwu.edu/enews/2004/1102.htm#Camargo Camargo Foundation Offers Residential Fellowships in France Deadline: January 15, 2005 [Source: RFP Bulletin ( October 29, 2004)] The Camargo Foundation (http:/ camargofoundation.org/ ) maintains a study center in Cassis, France, for the benefit of fellows who wish to pursue projects in the humanities and social sciences related to French and Francophone cultures, as well as creative projects by visual artists, photographers, video artists, filmmakers, media artists, composers, and writers. The foundation offers, at no cost, furnished apartments as well as a reference library, a darkroom, an artist's studio, and a music composition studio. The residential fellowship is accompanied by a $3,500 stipend, which is awarded automatically to each recipient of the grant. Applicants may include members of university and college faculties, including professors emeriti who wish to pursue special studies while on leave from their institutions; independent scholars working on specific projects; teachers in secondary schools, public or private, benefiting from a leave of absence in order to work on some pedagogical or scholarly project; graduate students whose academic residence and general requirements have been met and for whom a stay in France would be beneficial in completing the dissertation required for their degree; and writers, visual artists, photographers, video artists, filmmakers, media artists, and composers with specific projects to complete. Body: The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program Provides Scholarships The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program(GMS) provides African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Americans, and Hispanic Americans with scholarships for study in mathematics, science, engineering, education or library science. Eligibility : Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: * Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, * Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States , * Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.00 scale (unweighted) at the time of nomination, * Will be entering a U.S. accredited college or university as full-time, degree seeking freshmen in the Fall of 2005, * Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, and * Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.
