Manuscripts may focus on language in a number of ways. These include: second language acquisition, translation, language for specific purposes (LSP), language for science and technology (LST), teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), teacher development, classroom research, grammar, and applied linguistics. Also welcome are papers on language policy and planning, course and syllabus design, sociolinguistics, rhetoric and composition, semantics, pragmatics and lexical studies. This edition of the journal also hopes to include papers on languages other than English. Language also includes studies focusing on business, interpersonal, organizational and other forms of communication. Papers may be in the form of research reports, case studies, research in progress, or theoretical papers. Who May Submit: Educators and researchers from all fields related to language are invited to submit manuscripts. Submission deadline: Regular deadline: any time until the end of November 2004. All accepted submissions will be published in this Spring issue. Short deadline: December 2004 and January 2005. All accepted submissions will be published this Spring or in later issues.

Title: Call for Papers: The Association of Central Eurasian Students (ACES) of Indiana University
Body: 12th Annual Central Eurasian Studies Conference Saturday April 9, 2005 ACES invites panel and individual paper proposals for the Twelfth Annual Central Eurasian Studies Conference to be held on Saturday April 9, 2005 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Graduate students, professors and independent scholars are invited to submit abstracts of papers on Central Eurasian issues in all fields. Central Eurasia is defined, for the purpose of this conference, as the vast area and peoples of: - The Mongolian plateau (Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, southern Siberia, Kalmyks) - The Tibetan plateau and the Himalayas (Tibet, Ladakh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim) - The oases of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uighur) - The Steppe Turks (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tatars, Bashkirs) - Afghanistan and Iran - Turkey and Azerbaijan - The Finno-Ugric peoples (Hungary, Finland, Estonia) Submissions of pre-organized panels are strongly encouraged. Individual papers are also welcome and will be assigned by the conference committee to a suitable panel. New this year: An honorable distinction of best paper will be awarded. Title: Second Language Methodology Course, MN
Body: Concordia Language Villages is offering a graduate course in Second Language Methodologies, July 5 - 15, 2005. This 10-day course includes discussion of a variety of topics related to second language instruction. Immersion methodologies and their application to the K-12 classroom will be highlighted. Participants will have the opportunity to visit several of the Language Villages in order to observe immersion methodologies in action. The course will be taught in English. Participants earn three semester hours of graduate credit upon successful completion of this course, as well as return to their classroom with a plethora of materials to assist in immersion methodology instruction. The course instructor is Donna Clementi, a nationally recognized workshop presenter who has been a classroom teacher for 32 years. The cost for the program, $1,290, includes tuition, food and lodging, class excursions, and instructional material. The Goethe-Institut/AATG offers scholarships to German language teachers nationwide.
