Title: Call for Participation: French speech synthesis systems
Body: This experiment focuses on the use of speech synthesis in Computer- Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Currently, we are in the process of developing a battery of tests to determine whether French speech synthesis systems are ready for use in French CALL programs. In order to do this, we need to carry out an experiment with French teachers and CALL/NLP researchers like you. The goal of this experiment is to identify the requirements of speech synthesis for use in three specific CALL contexts, as a (1) reading machine, (2) a pronunciation model, and (3) a conversational partner. The experiment, which should take no more than an hour and a half of your time, is presented on-line. There is no need to download any files. If you think that you will be able to help us by participating in this experiment, please contact us by e-mail at the following address: zoe.handley@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk. All participants will be acknowledged in our publications. Kind regards, Zöe Handley, doctoral student and principal researcher, and Marie-Josée Hamel, supervisor. PS Would any of your colleagues be interested in participating in our experiment ? If so, please forward them our contact details. Many thanks in advance ! Body: From: http://www.carla.umn.edu/conferences/LTE2005/call.html Deadline: November 30, 2004 June 2-4, 2005 Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA The fourth International Conference on Language Teacher Education welcomes proposals for papers and symposia on all aspects of the education and professional development of language teachers. Papers and symposia may report on data-based research, theoretical and conceptual analyses, or best practices in language teacher education. The mission of the conference is to address the education of teachers of all languages, at all instructional and institutional levels, and in all the many national and international contexts in which this takes place, including: English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) instruction; foreign modern/world language teaching; bilingual education; immersion education; indigenous and minority language education; and the teaching of less commonly taught languages. The conference aims to bring together teacher educators from these many contexts to discuss and share research, theory, and best practices and to initiate and sustain meaningful professional dialogue across languages, levels, and settings. The conference will focus on four broad themes, which are described below. Proposals are more likely to be accepted if they address one of these themes.
