Title: Call for Presentations: NCCHC 2004 Leadership Symposium
Body: 2004 Leadership Symposium September 23-25, 2004 "Growing Future Leaders: Keeping the Promise" Hilton El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort Tucson, Arizona As time goes by, community colleges across our nation are continually faced with incredible opportunities, brilliantly disguised as unsolvable problems. How do we see through the disguise to allow the opportunity to bloom? Great Leadership. But where will our future leaders come from? The single greatest problem facing our colleges today is developing future leaders to turn these problems into opportunities. NCCHC asks for your help to grow our own leaders and keep the promise for Hispanic faculty, students and administrators. To grow great leaders, NCCHC strives to plant the seeds of knowledge, especially the great depth of knowledge that exists in our membership. Therefore, we invite you to submit a proposal for a presentation at the 2004 Leadership Symposium, September 23-25, 2004, at the Hilton El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort in Tucson. Using your feedback from last year’s Symposium and current hot topics concerning Hispanic educators, the conference planning committee has identified the following topics for presentations. * Leadership * Governance and Communications (internal and external communications and Board relations) * Fundraising * Best Practices and Finding Solutions (in areas such as IT, administrative services and facilities management) * Marketing and Public Relations (for recruitment and community image) * Student Services and the Learning College (i.e…financial aid, distance education and counseling) * Personal Growth Submit your proposal online at: http://www.ncchc.com/Call_for_Proposals2.htm Deadline to submit proposal: June 11, 2004 Visit http://www.ncchc.com/Symposium_Home_Page.htm to register for the conference.

Title: Flemish Sign Language online
Body: Yesterday the first Flemish Sign Language - Dutch / Dutch - Flemish Sign Language dictionary was launched. It is an on-line basic dictionary which contains over 2000 Dutch entries and over 6000 signs from Flemish Sign Language (VGT) (including regional variants). The signs can be read through SignWriting and can be seen as moving pictures (although not all of the films are ready yet; they are being added on a daily basis). You can search the dictionary in two directions: from the Dutch written word or from the Flemish Sign Language sign (with a search platform based on SignWriting). At the moment everything is still in Dutch and/or VGT, but information in English will be added shortly. The website can be found at: http://gebaren.ugent.be and can be accessed freely. Title: Analysis of the TOEFL
Body: I have written a contribution on the arbitrariness of the TOEFL, available to download from: www.mextesoldf.upn.mx Look for the title of the article, 'The AWFUL: A Multiple Guess Test' in the right column of the website. It has plenty of tips on out-guessing "multiple guess," and reviews the traps in most of the sections. I also deduce why the exam must have been made this way: the authors, the ETS, salvage stability (formerly "reliability") at the cost of validity, in accordance with an extremely Behavioristic Bell Curve-type rationale.
