Body: From http://www.cehd.umn.edu/CI/Programs/college/Certificates/LanguageImmersion.html The University of Minnesota’s Dual Language and Immersion Education certificate program is designed for preK-12 teachers and other professionals to work effectively in the following school-based program models: "One-way" foreign language immersion programs—designed for native English-speaking students "Two-way" bilingual immersion programs—designed for native English-speaking students and native speakers of the program's partner language, such as Spanish Developmental bilingual programs—designed for minority language learners, such as native Spanish speakers Indigenous language immersion programs—designed for Native American children in indigenous communities with the goal of revitalizing an endangered language and culture This graduate-level certificate program gives students an opportunity to complete a coordinated series of courses in the area of dual language and immersion education. The program does not lead to a state teaching certificate or licensure. Title: Title VIII Grants for Research and Advanced Language Training
Body: American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is now accepting applications for its 2011-2012 Title VIII Grants for Research and Advanced Language Training programs in Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Russia, Southeast Europe, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for these awards. The application deadline for Spring 2011, Summer 2011, Fall 2011, Academic Year 2011-2012, and Spring 2012 programs is OCTOBER 1, 2010. Programs must begin between February 1st, 2011 and June 30, 2012; and must be completed by September 30, 2012. Fellowships will be offered in three categories: *Title VIII Research Scholar Program: Provides full support for three- to nine-month research trips to Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Southeast Europe, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include roundtrip international travel, housing and living stipend, visa support, medical insurance, archive access, and logistical support in the field. Open to U.S. graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Annual deadline: October 1st. *Title VIII Combined Research and Language Training Program: Provides full support for research and up to ten academic hours per week of advanced language instruction for three-to-nine months in Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include roundtrip international travel, housing and living stipend, tuition, visa support, medical insurance, archive access, and logistical support in the field. Open to U.S. graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Annual deadline: October 1st. *Title VIII Southeast European Language Training Program: Provides fellowships for graduate students, faculty, and scholars to study language for a semester, academic year or summer in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. Open to students at the MA and Ph.D. level, as well as post-doctoral scholars and faculty, who have at least elementary language skills. That’s why she attended the 11th annual Shoshonean Language Reunion, being held in Fort Duchesne, Utah, through today. This year marks the first time the language conference has been hosted by the Ute Indian Tribe of Utah’s Uintah Basin. The gathering was organized by Venita Taveport, language program director for the Ute Indian Tribe. In addition to the main gathering each morning, there were afternoon workshops dealing with such issues as how to encourage more tribal involvement in traditional language and culture.
