Add digital audio and video, and you’ve certainly hit the jackpot. Students can use a variety of software applications to tell “stories,” but the stories can be told about any content area and told by students in any grade level. The stories can be in any language, or more than one language, and can incorporate audio, graphics, digital pictures, scanned images, or video. Digital storytelling is often personal in nature, but the skills used in developing and telling stories are valuable for learning how to communicate in many forums. Fuertes-Olivera Published by de Gruyter The need for constructing a lexicographical theory with a particular focus on specialized dictionaries for learners is well documented in recent publications. This will imply paying attention to, at least, four basic lexicographic categories: learners; the learner's situation; the learner's needs; dictionary assistance. In one or other way, these categories are analysed in this book, whose eleven chapters are grouped into three parts. Part 1 reflects on some of the main ideas defended by the function theory of lexicography, perhaps the theoretical framework that has paid more attention to specialized lexicography. Part 2 presents some proposals that have already being explored in the field of general learner's dictionary and must be incorporated into specialized metalexicography: cultural aspects; figurative meaning; the inclusion of grammatical information; the use of corpora. Part 3 introduces the state of play regarding specialized dictionaries in China and offers some ideas for coping with the proliferation of terminological glossaries in Internet. The LEARN conferences provide language professionals with a venue where they can interact with their colleagues and give them the opportunity to discuss and explore issues related to the science and technology of foreign language education. The 2010 AF-PAK LEARN Conference held at CAS is open to all instructors of the languages above from any U.S. Government-affiliated institution. The 2010 AF-PAK LEARN Conference Steering Committee invites anyone involved in instruction of these languages at a U.S. Government-affiliated institution to submit a proposal for presentation at the conference.
