Title: UCLA’s New Language Classroom: Conversations on Teaching and New Media
Body: From http://www.international.ucla.edu/languages/lab/about The goal of UCLA’s New Language Classroom is to provide a community where language educators can share how they are using technology to promote language learning. It opens classroom doors so visitors can come inside and observe how technology is used in the classroom environment. All the language instructors profiled here aim to expose learners to authentic language as it's spoken in real-world settings. Student interviews are included to explore their thoughts on language learning with new media. In particular UCLA's New Language Classroom aims to: * Profile conversations with foreign language instructors who integrate technology in their teaching. * Showcase projects with a significant technological component and indicate the steps and tools require replicating them. * Create a community of teachers and scholars interested in the application of emerging technologies to language learning. * Provide access to unfamiliar language classrooms: What might a Japanese class look like? * Empower students as learners in the digital age: how do our students use emerging technologies to enhance their language learning? Explore the New Language Classroom at http://www.international.ucla.edu/languages/lab .

Title: Book: Literacy and Second Language Oracy
Body: From http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780194423007.do Literacy and Second Language Oracy by Elaine Tarone, Martha Bigelow, and Kit Hansen Published by Oxford University Press Summary: Learners who cannot decode alphabetic script have been left out of the SLA research enterprise, at considerable cost to our understanding of the human capacity for language learning. This book offers research evidence documenting the significant impact of low literacy skill on adolescents' processing of oral L2 input and acquisition. Together with a large body of closely related research in cognitive psychology, the findings lead to a startling conclusion: language processing skills that have been assumed to be universal human traits appear instead to be a product of learners' experience with alphabetic print literacy. Title: Tutorial: The Internet for Modern Languages
Body: From http://www.vts.intute.ac.uk/he/tutorial/languages/?sid=3145467&itemid=12848 The tutorial is an interactive step-by-step guide to help students of modern languages make the best use of Internet resources in their academic work. Learners are taken on a ‘site-seeing' tour - a survey of online resources useful for study and research. The tutorial then provides advice on finding further resources, and gives tips on planning effective search strategies. The third section teaches techniques for evaluating websites. Finally, the tutorial presents specific examples of how the Internet can meet the needs of individual learners. Quizzes help consolidate what is learnt.
