Body: From http://lang.nalrc.wisc.edu/nalrc/news/announcement/inst2009.html National African Language Resource Center Summer Institute A Second Language Acquisition Certificate Program for African Language Instructors May 26 - June 5, 2009 The program consists of a two-week intensive introduction to: a) Teaching the skills of Speaking and Listening in the African Language Classroom b) Teaching the Skills of Writing and Reading in the African Language Classroom c) Testing and Assessing the Four Skills in the African Language Classroom d) Lesson Planning and Classroom Management. Participants will move from a theoretical overview to hands-on practice in teaching the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, and assessing them. Applicants should submit a letter of application and supporting documents for the summer 2009 institute by January 26, 2009. Body: From http://outreach.psu.edu/programs/applied-linguistics Summer Institute in Applied Linguistics, Penn State, June 22–July 17, 2009 This two- or four-week program will feature an array of topics, with particular focus on the teaching and learning of additional language. * Engage in a community of learning in applied linguistics * Learn from leading international scholars * Pursue your particular interest in applied linguistics * Earn up to 6 graduate credits * Network with colleagues from around the globe The institute has two sessions, each lasting two weeks: First Session—June 22 through July 3, 2009 Second Session—July 6 through July 17, 2009 Participants have the option of attending the first session, the second session, or both sessions. The American Association for Applied Linguistics and Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition have provided funding for three $1,000 grants to attend the 2009 Summer Institute in Applied Linguistics at Penn State. Graduate students in good standing, in applied linguistics or a related discipline, are encouraged to apply. The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 13, 2009.
