When Chinese professor Bai Bing came to Nicollet High School on a grant program, the SOCRATES distance learning program was able to secure her as an instructor for an interactive-TV course. Nineteen students signed up, making it one of SOCRATES' most popular offerings. According to a study released this month by the Sloan Consortium, more than 20 percent of all post-secondary students are enrolled in at least one online course — double the percentage from just five years ago.
