Title: French Heritage Language Program in New York
Body: From http://facecouncil.org/fhlp/index.html The French Heritage Language Program is designed to support and enrich the teaching and learning of French language, literature, and culture for students of Francophone background enrolled in New York City public schools. The primary objectives of the program are to help these students develop proficiency in French (reading comprehension, writing, oral expression and other literacy skills), and keep a connection to their respective cultures and identities, while increasing their opportunities for success in their new environment. This project also hopes to contribute to scholarly research in the field of heritage language learning. As a pilot program, it is a place for pedagogical and methodological exploration, and a way to build new partnerships. We seek to develop curriculum models that can be replicated and adapted in other cities in the United States, in France as well as in other countries. The French Heritage Language Program currently serves 60 students in four different Internationals high schools. For more information on the program and its curriculum, visit http://facecouncil.org/fhlp/index.html .

Title: Poem with Strong Verbs in German
Body: Here are the first few verses of a poem to practice strong verbs in German: Die Poetischen Verben Welche ist die schönste Sprache auf der Erde? Das ist das, was ich dir jetzt erzählen werde. Man kann es beweisen und zwar rein phonetisch, selbst die starken Verben klingen ja poetisch. Schreiben, schrieb, geschrieben treiben, trieb, getrieben – reiben, rieb, gerieben – bleiben, blieb, geblieben. Schreien, schrie, geschrieen – leihen, lieh, geliehen – steigen, stieg, gestiegen – schweigen, schwieg, geschwiegen. Diese schöne Sprache ist ja wie magnetisch. Selbst die starken Verben klingen ja poetisch. Helfen, half, geholfen – werfen, warf, geworfen – essen, aß, gegessen – messen, maß, gemessen. The entire poem can be found online at http://www.wer-weiss-was.de/theme46/article3316862.html . Wolf, C. [AATG-L] Die poetischen Verben. American Association of Teachers of German listserv. Title: Minimal Pairs for Pronunciation and Listening
Body: From http://pages.britishlibrary.net/marlodge/wordlist/index.html Minimal pairs are pairs of words whose pronunciation differs at only one segment (vowel or consonant sound), such as sheep and ship, or lice and rice. They are often used in listening tests and pronunciation exercises. Mr. Higgins has created two sets of tables, one for vowels and one for consonants, in which one can select a pair of sounds for a list of minimal pairs. For example, clicking on the cell for [b] versus [v] yields a list of 129 minimal pairs. The charts and an introduction to and explanation of minimal pairs are available online at http://pages.britishlibrary.net/marlodge/wordlist/index.html .
