Title | Minimal Pairs for Pronunciation and Listening |
Body | From http://pages.britishlibrary.net/marlodge/wordlist/index.html Minimal pairs are pairs of words whose pronunciation differs at only one segment (vowel or consonant sound), such as sheep and ship, or lice and rice. They are often used in listening tests and pronunciation exercises. Mr. Higgins has created two sets of tables, one for vowels and one for consonants, in which one can select a pair of sounds for a list of minimal pairs. For example, clicking on the cell for [b] versus [v] yields a list of 129 minimal pairs. The charts and an introduction to and explanation of minimal pairs are available online at http://pages.britishlibrary.net/marlodge/wordlist/index.html . |
