Title: International Online Conference
Body: From: "Keiko Schneider" C A L L F O R P R O P O S A L S International Online Conference on Teaching Online in Higher Education tohe@ipfw.edu "Online Classes Go Mainstream" November 10-13, 2003 Preconference Web Site: http://www.ipfw.edu/as/2003tohe/ The organizing committee of the International Online Conference on Teaching Online in Higher Education would like to announce the 2003 online conference on Teaching Online in Higher Education (TOHE). The focus of this year's conference is on merging online classes into the mainstream. Contrary to initial expectations, online classes are often taken by traditional students with scheduling problems, family responsibilities or work constraints that interfere with traditional class schedules. Consequently, existing infrastructure may not sufficiently accommodate the flood of students taking online classes. This year we want to take a special look at what problems currently exist in how students enroll in online courses, how they are served by support services, and how faculty teaching online courses fit into the system. If you are aware of particular problems that exist in your infrastructure or you are working within one that is particularly suited for online courses, we want to extend a special invitation to you to submit a proposal to present a paper and chat with conference participants online this November. Suggested topics include: * Institutional Infrastructure o Admission/Registration Procedures for Online Students o Accommodating Conflicting Needs Between Offices * Online Academic Programs o Development o Implementation o Advertising * Student Support Services for Online Students o Needed Support/Service Systems o Servicing Students with Special Needs o Coordinating Students Services between Departments * Assessment of Online Courses o Peer Reviewing o Data Collecting o Tools of Measurement * Evaluation of Student Online Learning o Tools for Student Evaluation o Methods of Assessment o Keeping Students Honest o Useful Student Feedback * Faculty Support for Online Teaching o Recruiting/Training Online Instructors o Faculty Incentives o Development Programs o Support Services for Faculty * Online Interaction with Students o Creating More Dynamic Interaction o Tools for Student Evaluation o Methods of Assessment o Keeping Students Honest o Useful Student Feedback * Faculty Support for Online Teaching o Recruiting/Training Online Instructors o Faculty Incentives o Development Programs o Support Services for Faculty * Online Interaction with Students o Creating More Dynamic Interaction o Tools for Building Community o Online Community for the Student's Perspective * Course Design Methods o Managing Online Learning o Instructional Module Development o Using Predeveloped Modules o Online Resources Available from Publishers o Course Development Tools/Templates o Instructional Design Theories Include the following in your proposal: 1) Title of presentation 2) Name, 3) title/rank/position, 4) affiliation, 5) email address, 6) mailing address of presenter(s), 7) Abstract: not to exceed 100 words Send proposal to: tohe@ipfw.edu Proposals are due August 29, 2003.
