Title: NAEP Validity Studies Reports Now Available Online
Body: From: The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has made a number of interesting NAEP Validity Studies (NVS) Panel reports available online. The reports, released May 19-21, are included in the complete list of NCES NAEP working papers at: http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/getpubcats.asp?sid=031#014 Specific titles of these recently released papers are below. These reports, some commissioned by the NVS Panel as early as 1997, were written by members of the Panel to report on studies conducted to identify and develop technically sound techniques for use in NAEP assessments. The Panel, whose membership includes nationally recognized psychometricians and experts in NAEP subject areas, advises NCES on the research agenda for maintaining and developing the high technical quality of NAEP assessments. Discussions between the Panel and NCES have resulted in a rich collection of reports, which can be easily downloaded for free. Title: Job Openings
Body: From: "GM Garcia" Dear Friends & Colleagues, This is a plea for your help in finding 2 bilingual teachers for a 90:10 program that is completely set up for success. Our Kindergarten finalist just backed out due to spouse's transfer in work. We all know how important it is to build exemplary dual immersion programs for our state and our field. This school has every systemic and administrative support system in place. Now all we need is 2 teachers! Please help by forwarding the following message. Feel free to duplicate the attached flier. I can be reached at the phone number below. On the week of July 21-25 I'll be at CABE's Two Way Institute, staying at the Hyatt Regency where the conference is held. It's crucial that this opportunity for a community and district supported program move forward. Thanks for your help! Seeking Bilingual Certified Teacher Kindergarten & 1st Grade El Puente Elementary Milwaukie, Oregon North Clackamas School District is opening El Puente bilingual magnet school in September 2003. Our board of education has studied programs for ELL students over the last 4 years and is fully committed to supporting a K-6 dual immersion school. Using the 90:10 model, we'll begin with one Kinder and one first grade class, adding a grade each year. This is truly a dual immersion teacher's ideal scenario: * 100% of English speakers in Kinder have had pre-school Spanish immersion. * Parental choice includes transportation to ensure equitable access. * Planning grant helps pay for conferences, planning time and materials. * Principal is an experienced bilingual teacher & ESL administrator committed to advocacy and instructional leadership. * District office & administration is institutionally supportive & vested in the school's success. * Extended day Kindergarten with only 20 students! NCSD is about 11 miles outside of Portland in an increasingly diverse community. Please see our posting on the district website: www.nclack.k12.or.us. Interested candidates begin by sending a letter of interest & resume to garciag@nclack.k12.or.us.
