Dual-U (http://www.dualu.org/) an eight-module, on-line professional development curriculum, based on Dual Language Instruction: A Handbook for Enriched Education by N. Cloud, F. Genesee and E. Hamayan (Heinle & Heinle, 2000) was launched on April 1, 2003. This curriculum is designed to assist elementary and secondary teachers and administrators in developing, implementing, and assessing dual language or two-way immersion programs.

Body: From: "Anselmo Villanueva" SUMMER YOUTH MULTICULTURAL ARTS CAMPS at IFCC Asian Arts Theme is Week Two Theme Contacts: - Eli Madrone, Performing Arts Coordinator 503-823-2001 theatre@ifcc-arts.org - Sally Lewis, Development/PR Director 503-823-2070 info@ifcc-arts.org www.ifcc-arts.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Portland, OR July 15, 2003) Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center (IFCC)announced its third week of SUMMER YOUTH MULTICULTURAL ARTS CAMPS will feature East Indian artist, Raina Imig, and local dance instructor, Sivagami Vanka, as instructors. Beginning Tuesday, July 22, the Asian Arts Camp will run 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week. Students will spend half the day in visual arts instruction and half the day in performing arts. IFCC will provide lunchtime supervision but students must bring their own lunches. Cost for the three days is $90 for IFCC members and $100 for non-members. Scholarship aid is available on a sliding-fee basis; call 503.823.2001 for application forms and more information. Imig will help students create mandala paintings and drawings. Students will gain knowledge of mandalas in art, nature and world culture. Imig will be a featured artist in IFCC's galleries this November 2003. She is originally from India but now lives and teaches in Portland at Portland Community College. A member of the Talisman Gallery on Alberta Street, Imig is a recipient of a RACC Community Education grant. Vanka will teach students the basics of Classical Indian Dance. She began studying South Indian dance in Madras, India at age six. She performs Bharatha Natyam dance, one of India's five classical dance forms as well as folk dances. Supplies and materials included in registration fees. Instructors for IFCC are experienced local arts educators as well as active creators and practitioners of their specific crafts and artistic expressions. Additionally, IFCC has enlisted board members and community volunteers to provide instructor assistance for classes. IFCC is an independent, community-based, nonprofit center for the performing, visual and literary arts and arts education. In its 20th year, IFCC is dedicated to creating an environment, in which people of every ethnic/cultural background can come together as artists and audience to explore, preserve and celebrate their diversity.
