Title: Conference: Central States 2005
Body: This year the Ohio Foreign Language Association is sponsoring a joint conference with the Central States Conference, which means we will be hosting folks from 16 other states! Participants will have the opportunity to choose from around 200 sessions and workshops (double the usual number for our own conferences), which include "Best of" sessions from most of the 17 states. Myriam Met, Acting Director of the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland, will give the Keynote Address. Wayne P. Lawson of the Ohio Arts Council will speak at the conference luncheon. This year's program includes a wide variety of sessions and workshops for all levels and languages, and, for the first time in Ohio, a TPRS strand. Nationally-known TPRS presenters Susan Gross and Karen Rowan will each be doing workshops there. The AATF is sponsoring a concert by Josée Vachon, and several other language-specific organizations will offer receptions. REGISTER ONLINE NOW FOR $90. After January 10, the price goes up to $100. On-site registration (after Feb. 14) is $120. Students and retired teachers can register for $55. Advisory council members can register for free, but MUST REGISTER to attend the conference. Title: Japanese Listening Pilot Test Extension
Body: Dear Sensei, The Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) is extending the pilot test period of the Japanese Assessment of Listening Proficiency (ALP). We are looking for teachers who would be willing to pilot the Japanese ALP between now and February 28, 2005. Japanese teachers at all levels are welcome to give this test to their students. Your help will be greatly appreciated. The participation procedure is as easy as following the steps below: Step 1. Send an e-mail to jppilot@uoregon.edu saying that you are interested. Step 2. Visit the Japanese ALP FAQ page at http://www.languageassessment.net/language/japanesealp/index.htm Step 3. Follow the steps on the FAQ page to do a Technology check to make sure that your computers are compatible. Step 4. From the FAQ page, submit the teacher registration form. Title: Hamburg Museum Will Document German Emigration
Body: A museum set to open in 2007 in Hamburg hopes to attract some of the 43 million Americans who claim German ancestry. Among the attractions will be renovated residence buildings dating to the 1850s, where Germans stayed while waiting for ships to take them to America during the 100-year emigration boom, and displays representing the lifestyle and stories of the time.
