Title: Educational website: Venez voir le Senegal
Body: Venez Voir Le Sénégal is an exploration of the Francophone world developed by Colby professors and technologists as a curricular resource, and made available for the internet community under a Creative Commons license. This website centers around six short video clips shot in and around Dakar, narrated in French with links to French transcriptions. You will need the free Quicktime Player installed on your machine to view the clips. Editor's Note: After viewing the videos, students are invited to create and add their own narration to the sixth video, which is provided originally without narration. Students will thus get a chance to use technology to edit their own film. (Apple's iMovie required.) Colby College (2003). Venez Voir Le Senegal | Colby LRC. http:// www.colby.edu/lrc/projects/senegal.html (3 May 2004).

(11 Mar. 2004). Re: Unit help: La frontera. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (3 May 2004). You might include art: Carmen Lomas Garza (all of her books are great, and a lot is on the internet) Judith Baca (I love her mural at the Denver Airport) Jose Antonio Burciaga (Last Supper of the Chicano Heroes) Luis Jimenez, a sculptor whose "Crossing the River" is one of the most powerful pieces I have ever seen. Also poetry: Pat Mora Ana Castillo "Mi hijo, mi hija, el aguila, la paloma" (I think - it's at school.) Corky Gonzalez: Yo soy Joaquin "Why am I so brown?" http://www.trinidadjr.org/TPWhy.html There's another - Homenaje al padre chicano - that is in Sendas literarias (I think) Another film/book combination: The ballad of Gregorio Cortez and the book it was based on: With a Pistol in His Hand, Americo Paredes. Civil Rights: Lemon Grove, Zoot Suit riots, Ludlow massacre, Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Emma Tenayuca, Hispanic Heroes: Dr. Hector P. Garcia (there is a video about him, but I don't remember the name.) Zorro, the Hispanic super-hero. You might have the kids investigate sports heroes and entertainment heroes BEFORE the current crop. Also, military heroes. And don't forget Bill Richardson. Also: the first Thanksgiving (in El Paso). Here's one site you can use as a starting point: http://www.cfbisd.edu/schools/ smi/raza/ There are a lot of sources at the end, but a lot of links no longer exist, alas. CRS, (11 Mar. 2004). Title: Spanish music: Justo Lamas materials
Body: Justo Lamas website: http://www.justo-lamas.net/home.htm Reviews for Justo Lamas on FLTEACH: "Justo will not disappoint!" "The students loved him!" "His performance is dynamic and highly interactive." "Justo's music teaches and reinforces concepts that we teach in our classroom. Even teachers who didn't fully understand the process of how Justo teaches in his concerts came out as firm believers." Pam Kaatz (Justo Lamas' tour manager) asked me to remind interested teachers of FREE available materials. Pam has developed activity sheets for all of the songs on the Justo CD's available from Teachers' Discovery, but it seems few people have requested them. The company keeps re-ordering CD's, so why aren't there more requests for the accompanying materials? Perhaps the message isn't getting out. So this is a reminder that anyone may request FREE OF CHARGE any/all materials simply by sending a request to kaatz@airmail.net. These are full lyrics as well as accompanying activities - a lot of work already completed, available for the asking. Also, there is a NEW video also available for free. Marlow, T. (2 May 2004). Re: Justo Lamas info. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (3 May 2004). Here's an idea for a poster/tee-shirt contest to promote a Justo Lamas concert: Speaking of T-shirts, the last two years our school had an accelerated art class. The art teacher and I put our heads together and she decided, as an assignment, to tell each of her art students to create a poster that promoted the concert. I gave background information and shared Justo's music with her that she used to inspire her students. We then took the finished posters and designed a T-shirt that students had the option of ordering. The last two years the shirts were incredible! Moretti, K. (22 Apr. 2004). Re: Justo Lamas.
