Amnesty International has a short video about a woman orphaned as a child
during the Guatemalan Civil War and her search for her family at:

Also, there is a photo essay and interviews about the indigenous peoples of
Guatemala after the civil war at:

You might include art:
Carmen Lomas Garza (all of her books are great, and a lot is on the internet)
Judith Baca (I love her mural at the Denver Airport)
Jose Antonio Burciaga (Last Supper of the Chicano Heroes)
Luis Jimenez, a sculptor whose "Crossing the River" is one of the most
powerful pieces I have ever seen.

Also poetry:
Pat Mora Ana Castillo "Mi hijo, mi hija, el aguila, la paloma" (I think - it's at
school.)
Corky Gonzalez: Yo soy Joaquin "Why am I so brown?"
http://www.trinidadjr.org/TPWhy.html
There's another - Homenaje al padre chicano - that is in Sendas literarias (I
think)

Another film/book combination: The ballad of Gregorio Cortez and the book it
was based on: With a Pistol in His Hand, Americo Paredes.

Civil Rights: Lemon Grove, Zoot Suit riots, Ludlow massacre, Cesar Chavez,
Dolores Huerta, Emma Tenayuca,

Hispanic Heroes: Dr. Hector P. Garcia (there is a video about him, but I don't
remember the name.) Zorro, the Hispanic super-hero.

You might have the kids investigate sports heroes and entertainment heroes
BEFORE the current crop. Also, military heroes. And don't forget Bill
Richardson. Also: the first Thanksgiving (in El Paso).

Here's one site you can use as a starting point: http://www.cfbisd.edu/schools/
smi/raza/ There are a lot of sources at the end, but a lot of links no longer
exist, alas.
