Body: From http://www.southasiacenter.upenn.edu/documents/Events09-10/STARTALK/STARTALK_2010.htm Penn STARTALK 2010 Teacher Training Institute for Hindi & Urdu July 12-23, 2010 Penn will again host a two-week residential STARTALK Teacher Training program for Hindi & Urdu instructors in the summer of 2010. In the last year’s successful STARTALK teacher training program, there were 21 participants from schools and colleges around the country who received holistic training in language pedagogy that incorporates how to create and implement Standards-based curriculum, conduct performance based assessment, and use best instructional practices based on second language acquisition research. The overall mission of the teacher training institutes is to improve the quality of Hindi & Urdu instruction in the US by preparing qualified teachers who understand how foreign languages are learned and taught for real-life use. The program is open to FIRST-TIME attendees only. All pre-service and in-service teachers of Hindi and Urdu at school or college levels are welcome to apply. Participants will receive a stipend of $1,000 upon the successful completion of the program. There is no tuition fee and participants can get free accommodation on the lush green Penn campus. Everyone will receive a certificate of attendance for OPI Familiarization workshop from ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) in addition to a certificate of attendance in the program from the University of Pennsylvania. Body: Any active member of the Ohio Foreign Language Association is eligible to apply for an OFLA Teacher Grant, with the exception of those who serve on the selection committee. Proposed projects must lead to the development of materials that will be used in the foreign language classroom. They may include requests for travel, software, and equipment. The maximum amount to be awarded is $500 per person. Proposals must reach the OFLA Scholarship Committee Chair by April 27, 2010. Body: The District of Columbia Public Schools is seeking outstanding educators to join our team of Master Educators for the 2010-2011 school year. D.C. Public Schools launched a new teacher performance management system in the fall of 2009 as part of its effort to become one of the highest performing school systems in the country. One of the key elements of this new system (called IMPACT) is the Master Educator role. Master Educators have two primary responsibilities: 1) to serve as impartial, third-party evaluators of teacher performance; and 2) to provide teachers with targeted, content-specific support. Key responsibilities of this role include: · Evaluate educator proficiency in the DCPS Teaching and Learning Framework through classroom observations and conferences. · Provide support to educators by modeling lessons, coaching teachers, conducting informal observations, leading professional development seminars, and helping connect educators with PD resources. Required Past Experience: · A minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a low-income school. · A track record of success increasing student achievement in a low-income school. Salary: · $90,000 plus benefits – full-time position with one month off in the summer. Title: American Indian Language Development Institute
Body: The annual American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI) will take place at the University of Arizona June 7-23, 2010. AILDI 2010 will be an exciting and intensive two weeks offering classes & special lectures on the integration of Indigenous knowledge, language, and science and technology. Other courses will include Indigenous language immersion methods & application, linguistics for Native American communities with curriculum and materials development a component of all AILDI courses.
