Penn STARTALK 2010 Teacher Training Institute for Hindi & Urdu
July 12-23, 2010

Penn will again host a two-week residential STARTALK Teacher Training program for Hindi & Urdu instructors in the summer of 2010. In the last year’s successful STARTALK teacher training program, there were 21 participants from schools and colleges around the country who received holistic training in language pedagogy that incorporates how to create and implement Standards-based curriculum, conduct performance based assessment, and use best instructional practices based on second language acquisition research. The overall mission of the teacher training institutes is to improve the quality of Hindi & Urdu instruction in the US by preparing qualified teachers who understand how foreign languages are learned and taught for real-life use.

The program is open to FIRST-TIME attendees only. All pre-service and in-service teachers of Hindi and Urdu at school or college levels are welcome to apply. Participants will receive a stipend of $1,000 upon the successful completion of the program. There is no tuition fee and participants can get free accommodation on the lush green Penn campus. Everyone will receive a certificate of attendance for OPI Familiarization workshop from ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) in addition to a certificate of attendance in the program from the University of Pennsylvania.
