Title: Call for Submissions: TELL (Applied Linguistics)
Body: TELL is a peer reviewed journal published by Iran's Association of Applied Linguists. For our January 2009, we are planning a special issue on critical pedagogy (CP), and we hope to get contributions that explore different applications of CP in L2 teaching, testing, materials development, teacher education… We would also like to receive argumentative papers that might question the applicability of CP to mainstream L2 contexts. Contributions need to be within the word-count range of 4000 to 8000, in Word 2003 format, and sent as email attachments to the address below. Please use APA guidelines for references. Title: Call for Papers: SCENARIO Journal for Drama and Theatre in Foreign and Second Language Education
Body: The bilingual (German-English), refereed online journal SCENARIO, the Journal for Drama and Theatre in Foreign and Second Language Education, announces its 3rd issue with contributions by Marina Bertino, Frank Fischäss, Mark Lauer, Birgit Oelschläger, Steffi Retzlaff, Michael Sosulski, and with a text by Peter Jankowski, Defeat and After (Niederlage, mit Folgen). The new issue can be accessed via the journal's website: http://scenario.ucc.ie . Teachers, scholars, theatre professionals, drama educators, and drama education researchers involved with the teaching and learning of second and foreign languages are invited to submit papers for the fifth issue of SCENARIO. Contributors will shape and intensify the debate around the role of drama and theatre in the teaching and learning of second and foreign languages, literatures, and cultures. Deadline for submission: December 15, 2008. Both theoretical papers and reports on practical projects in line with the journal's profile are welcome. Please consult the journal's website as to submission guidelines. Papers may be in English or German and should not exceed 15-18 pages (5000-6000 words). They should be preceded by an abstract of no more than 200 words. Please include a short author biography and 4-6 keywords. Body: CALL FOR PAPERS: 2009 Spanish in the United States & Spanish in Contact with Other Languages Location: The Biltmore Hotel/The David William Hotel Coral Gables-Miami, Florida, USA February 19-21, 2009 (Pre-conference event on the evening of February 18) Organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Center & the Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University, Miami, FL Call for abstracts for either of the above meetings (please indicate for which of the meetings you are proposing a paper). Proposal deadline: October 12, 2008. Open to all relevant topics, with thematic emphasis on the following: Spanish in relation to language attitudes, politics, policy and pedagogical issues Spanish in education Spanish in contact with other languages, Varieties of Spanish Issues of language maintenance and language change Spanish in the United States and Canada Spanish in politics, the law and the media Spanish in the professions, including health care, advertising, international business and translation/interpretation.
