Title: NCTA Seminar on Teaching about Asia
Body: From http://www.indiana.edu/~easc/taa_seminar The East Asian Studies Center (EASC) at Indiana University will hold a National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) Teaching about Asia summer residential seminar in Bloomington, IN from July 21-26, 2008. In addition to course materials, EASC will provide housing and parking, as well as all meals during the seminar at no cost. The NCTA seminar is a no-cost professional development program for teachers of grades 6-12 in world history, world cultures, and world geography. They also consider educators in the arts, literature, and East Asian languages on a case-by-case basis. This one week/30-hour seminar provides a broad overview of the history and cultures of China, Japan, and Korea and gives teachers the opportunity to discuss classroom applications and resources. Those who successfully complete the seminar will receive a $500 personal stipend and a $300 resource-buying grant for their school. They will also be eligible to apply for a very low-cost summer NCTA study tour to East Asia. Graduate credit from Indiana University is available for purchase for those who are interested. This program includes an overview of basic business, combined with discussion of current issues in language-teaching methodology and curriculum design. Participants work on group projects in which they design curriculum modules that apply the concepts addressed during the program. Title: Funding: Toyota International Teacher Program-Galapagos Islands

This includes travel time, two night pre-departure orientation, and 12 nights in Ecuador. Direct costs of participation (transportation, lodging, meals and all program activities) will be paid by Toyota. While on the Galapagos Islands, program participants will have the unique opportunity to work in groups with Galapagueño teachers on the design of interdisciplinary environmental lessons. These lessons will be shared with the education community.
