Title: Endangered Languages Week 2008
Body: Here are some events going on around the world in honor of Endangered Languages Week 2008, which is from April 30th to May 8th this year: The Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Russell Square, London, will host a series of events in honor of Endangered Languages Week 2008, which is from April 30th to May 8th. Events include the following: * The UK premiere of the acclaimed new film The Linguists shown at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival * Meet an Endangered Language where you can come face-to-face with an endangered language, learn about where it is spoken and why it is threatened, experience its culture, and pick up some basic words and phrases. * Open Day when we open the doors of the Endangered Languages Archive and you can meet researchers, see displays of staff and student work, and experience the latest digital technologies used to record, archive and support endangered languages * A debate on how to encourage personal action in support of language diversity: What is Your Language Footprint? * A full day workshop on Engagement and Activism in Endangered Languages Research * A specialist workshop on Geographical Information Systems for Linguists * A day of international films on endangered languages with work from Australia, Denmark, Taiwan and UK * Seminars on moral and ethical issues in language fieldwork For more information, go to http://www.hrelp.org/events/elw2008/index.html .

Title: Chinese Pedagogy Institute
Body: For Middle and High School Teachers of Chinese Chinese Pedagogy Institute Dates: June 15-July 2 Location: Bloomington, Indiana This residential program will offer 4-5 hours of graduate-level credit (at no cost to participants) to 24 prospective and current middle and high school Chinese teachers recruited nationally. Sixteen teachers will be placed in the beginning track, which will focus on lesson planning and classroom instruction, and 8 teachers in the advanced track, which will highlight curriculum design, material development, and assessment. In addition to tuition, instructional materials, lodging, and meals will be fully covered. All eligible participants are encouraged to apply.
