This conference will commemorate the inauguration of JLTANE at Harvard University just over 20 years ago and seeks in particular to further dialogue and articulation between the college and pre-college levels of Japanese language education in this country in connection with the introduction of the Japanese Advanced Placement exam this spring. Title: Summer Study in Mexico
Body: From http://www.oregonoic.org/mexico.html OIC’s 2007 Summer Seminar for Spanish Teachers will take place from July 6 to August 3 in Puebla, Mexico, at the English/Español Training Center (ETC), a private educational institution which has hosted this program annually since 1995. The Seminar program includes intensive instruction in Spanish and teaching methods, numerous field trips in and near the city, as well as a three-day tour of Mexico City, and additional travel options. In order to conduct this seminar, OIC must have received a minimum of 15 registrations, with deposits, by April 30. Title: Pennsylvania Governor’s Institute for English as a Second Language
Body: From http://www.papde.ws The Governor’s Institute for English as a Second Language July 22-27, 2007 Learn from nationally recognized authors and presenters research-based instructional strategies for teaching and assessing English language learners in the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. Explore research based strategies for teaching ELLs how to read and write. Participants will also be introduced to an exciting mathematics program developed for ELLs who are two or more grade levels below in math. These valuable programs will be delivered in an interactive mode by experienced, engaging consultants. Understand the cultural challenges and issues facing English language learners through engaging presentations, simulations, performing groups, and field trips. Who: Preference will be given to district teams of three to five teachers and administrators. Teams should include ESL and classroom educators. Individual registrations will be accepted as space allows. Where: Southeastern Pennsylvania on the beautiful campus of Immaculata University.
