Title: Class Project Ideas
Body: A recent request on the FLTEACH listserv for ideas for having students create a bulletin board received the following suggestions. The original request was for a French class, but these ideas may inspire teachers of a wide range of languages and levels to design a variety of thematic projects. ---- I would do a pop music bulletin board. Your students could find artists' Web sites and print out pictures. In the process, they could also listen to music samples. Graham, D. Re: French bulletin board ideas? Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (13 Mar. 2006). ---- Adrienne, what about refranes in Spanish, or, proverbios? The students, or any visitor to your class, for that matter, might find these interesting. I have an assortment of typical questions that students ask on one of my classroom bulletin boards. Not only is it a teaching tool, but it immediately catches the attention of visitors to the classroom as well. Webb, M. Re: French bulletin board ideas? Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (11 Mar. 2006). ---- Here is a site with a ton of pictures of bulletin boards our students have made over the years. They are organized by topic. They are all in Spanish but I hope you can at least get some ideas! http://spanport.byu.edu/hispanet/recursos_pedagogicos/materiales/carteleras.html Knapp, N. Re: French bulletin board ideas? Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (4 Mar. 2006). ---- We just finished making menus in 7th grade and catalogs of clothing in 8th grade. These make great bulletin boards. Parents are coming soon for conferences. They love to see what the kids have done. My students also make brochures for cities in France and attractions in Paris. These are great for bulletin boards too. Ritzel, B. Re: French bulletin board ideas? Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (4 Mar. 2006).

Title: Savoir/Connaitre Activity
Body: I make up a bunch of index cards including things that require one verb or the other (how to make a cake, my dad, your friend's dog's name, etc.). I write those in French, then hand them out to the students. They have to tell the class, "Je sais faire un gâteau." or "Je ne sais pas ..." You get the idea. I always make sure there are some really wacky ones. I also check on the truth from time to time, so if they say they know how to do something I may make them do it. The class has to listen and tell me what that person said. It's also a good way to slip in a few new vocab words to keep them guessing. You can have them translate from English for an extra challenge. Arbushites, W. Re: savoir / connaitre activities? Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. Title: News Site for French Learners
Body: I've just printed out a couple of short articles I'm going to read with my students on Monday from the news site Les Cles de l'Actualite Junior. I'm sending the URL in case some of you French teachers are not familiar with the site. It targets kids from 8-12 (native French speakers) and therefore the language is simple to understand, but at the same time valuable for our advanced students. http://www.lesclesjunior.com/Index.htm Howard, S. French Kids' news site. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (16 Oct. 2006). ---- I have used this site for quite some time. I copy articles to a Word document to get rid of the clutter. My students read the article and usually are ready to discuss what they read within a few moments. My students are advanced and use the AP lectures which are often challenging and can be discouraging to their egos. The Cles (I omit the word "junior"...and they don't know the target audience either) give them a lot of confidence! It is a wonderful site! Pernik, C. French Kids' news site. Title: The Beatles -- in Spanish

You can find them on a compilation CD called "Los Mustang" 1962-1970. My favorite to use in class to teach colors in Spanish I is "Submarino amarillo." Watson, G. Fwd: Beetles in Spanish.
