Title: Funding Opportunity: Young Scholars Program Focuses on Immigrant Childrens' Development
Body: From: http://www.fcd-us.org/ourwork/y-how.html The FCD Young Scholars Program (YSP) aims to stimulate basic and policy-relevant research focused on the early education, health and well-being of immigrant children from birth to age 10, particularly those who are living in low-income families. Given the limited research on young immigrant children, proposals focused on children from birth to age eight are highly encouraged. YSP supports the career development of young investigators — from the behavioral and social sciences or in an allied professional field — to attain tenure or who have received tenure in the last four years from a college or university in the United States. For more information on this opportunity, please visit: http://www.fcd-us.org/ourwork/y-how.html

Title: Elementary Chinese Programs Growing in Number
Body: With a Mandarin Chinese Advanced Placement program slated to begin next year, many U.S. elementary schools have one more reason to add Chinese to their curriculums. While students may not develop conversational fluency as quickly as they might in more commonly-taught languages such as Spanish, educators believe it's a good idea to start learning Chinese while students are young. Title: Upcoming French Bac Preparation
Body: The French bac will begin in two days, so there are a lot of news items on the TV news shows about the exam, the students, and preparation for the tests. Today, 7 juin, there were reports at 13 heures and 20 heures. http://hautdebit.tf1.fr/hautdebit/newsjt/ They included preparation of the exam sites, cleaning the tables and even the toilets to be sure there is nothing there that might be used to cheat. Bringing in bottles of water (it seems some students have been printing fake water bottle labels with tiny crib sheets in place of the composition of the bottle). Yesterday, 6 juin, 13 heures and also 20 heures, there were reports about cheating. A student caught cheating can be excluded from all exams (interdit d'examen) for 1, 2, or 3 years. One person was even blacklisted from entry into any university for life. They also talked about the languages tested. I think there are about 56 different languages tested for the bac. Ponterio, B.
