Title: Dallas Kindergartners Adjust to Bilingual Approach
Body: This DallasNews.com article provides a compelling description of how younger students adjust to their first school experience and a bilingual program at the same time by watching the other students for cues, asking classmates for help, and eventually checking out books from the library in both languages. This program, in a community that is 33% (and rising) native Spanish-speaking, features alternating days of instruction in Spanish and English with no duplication of lessons. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/city/irving/stories/060205dnwesduallanguage.108014f75.html

Title: Trends in Oregon English-Language Education
Body: This week's edition of OELA Newsline featured two articles highlighting programs in the Pacific Northwest which aid non-native English speakers. Joining the growing number of bilingual programs in the Northwest, Maya Angelou Elementary School pairs students with different native languages, allowing each to take on the role of teacher. The Migrant Education Program has partnered with Portland State University to provide extra support for migrant families transitioning into the school system. http://www.dailyvanguard.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/05/31/4296ed9a4eac0 Access the full edition of OELA Newsline at: http://www.ncela.gwu.edu/enews/2005/0607.htm

Title: Native American Language Dictionary in Progress
Body: There are only 300 living speakers of Nuuchahnulth in west Canada, most of them older speakers, but thanks to a Newcastle University professor, the language is about to get its own dictionary. Nuuchahnulth is a highly agglutinative language, which means it allows entire sentences to be encapsulated into a single word. The project largely utilizes data collected by linguist Edward Sapir almost 100 years ago. Read the BBC News article at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4583455.stm
