Title: Seminar in Spain: Technology and Teaching Spanish
Body: From http://summer-sessions.ucdavis.edu/specialSession.cfm?goto=spanish TECHNOLOGY AND TEACHING SPANISH Dates: June 19 – July 3, 2010 Location: Salamanca, Spain Instructor: Professor Robert Blake In this two-week seminar, participants will learn how to use technology in service of teaching Spanish as a foreign language (E/LE). The class will examine the major research findings from the field of second language acquisition field as well as learn how to apply this knowledge in practical terms to the teaching of the Spanish language with special assistance from technology. In addition to reviewing the most troublesome points of Spanish grammar, participants will practice how to organize their classrooms in dynamic ways via the inclusion of technologically based activities. Particular attention will be paid to distance learning, computer mediated, communication, and task-based learning. Selected topics will be accompanied by a review of pertinent topics from Spanish grammar (ser/estar; imperfect/preterite; object pronouns; subordinate clauses, mood selection; pragmatic circumlocutions). Body: The Northwest Indian Language Institute¹s 2010 Summer Institute June 21-July 2, 2010 University of Oregon - Eugene, Oregon Please join us for the 13th annual NILI Summer Institute at the University of Oregon. Summer Institute begins on Monday, June 21, 2010 and ends on Friday, July 2, 2010. Course offerings this year will include Sahaptin 1 & 2, Tolowa Dene, Lushootseed, Chinuk Wawa, beginning, intermediate and advanced linguistics, teaching methods for classroom language teaching, elements of immersion language teaching, culture place-based curriculum writing, story book making, and multimedia materials development 1 & 2. Tuition is $1400 for 6 UO credits. Material and computer lab fees are $150. All Summer Institute participants will receive a $70 scholarship to attend the 17th Annual Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium. The Institute will be held in conjunction with InField – training in language documentation, and the 17th Annual Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium, the Athabascan/Dene , Hokan-Penutian and the 45th International Conference on Salish and Neighboring Languages conferences. Body: INSTRUCTOR OF ELEMENTARY RUSSIAN Arizona State University seeks a faculty associate to teach intensive Elementary Russian during the summer 2010 (June 1 - July 23) of the ASU Critical Languages Institute in Tempe, Arizona (http://cli.asu.edu ). The successful candidate will teach Russian four hours daily and contribute to cultural programming in a team-taught course under the supervision of a lead instructor. Candidates must have a Master's degree in Russian language and literature or a closely related field; possess native or near-native proficiency in both Russian and English; and have experience teaching Russian at the Elementary level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching intensive language courses, to candidates with experience developing and leading cultural programming, and to candidates with experience in team teaching.
