Body: Perú for Spanish Teachers June 26 – July 20, 2010 For the seventh consecutive year, Mount Mary College is offering a unique immersion experience for Spanish teachers seeking to refresh their language skills and improve their teaching practices. During the 2010 summer, the program will return to Arequipa, Peru. Participants will be immersed in Peruvian culture and history, and they will develop thematic units based on their Peruvian experience for use in their classrooms. Body: The deadline for applications for the next round of TOEFL Grants and Awards is February 15. Applications are being accepted for the TOEFL Board Grant, Small Grants for Doctoral Research in Second or Foreign Language Assessment and the TOEFL International Speaker Grant. Nominations are also being accepted for the TOEFL Outstanding Young Scholar Award. The purpose of these grants and awards is to encourage scholarship and support significant activities in the field of English language assessment and international education. February 15 is also the deadline for the TOEFL Library and Resource Center Award, which provides language teaching and testing texts to enhance the collections of libraries and resource centers outside of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Would you like to work with the Foreign Service Officers and Specialists who represent the United States abroad? Then this may be the job for you! You could be a Chinese Language and Culture Instructor in the U.S. Department of State, at the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, VA. In your position as Language and Culture Instructor you will: Teach speaking, reading, listening comprehension and writing (if required) skills to a full range of students at all levels of language proficiency Your responsibilities may include: · Serving as a classroom instructor in teaching speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing to a full range of students. · Developing and presenting special materials for students with specialized needs. · Developing or revising courses and instructional materials. · Assisting in evaluating student progress and course effectiveness. · Providing language training and cross-cultural awareness to prepare Department of State employees and other foreign affairs professionals for their specific assignments. The Foreign Service Institute is the Federal Government's primary training institution for officers and support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs community, preparing American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign affairs interests overseas and in Washington. Requirements: Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese. You do not need to be a US citizen, but you must have authority to work in the US – we cannot sponsor applicants for visas. Salary: $51,630 to $81,204 (starting salaries vary and may be based in part on superior academic achievement and/or previous work experience).
