Title: The Sixth Annual Seminar on Korean History & Culture and the Korean American Experience
Body: The Sixth Annual Seminar on Korean History & Culture and the Korean American Experience for K-12 Educators in Los Angeles August 3-7, 2009 Objectives: This five-day seminar offers a unique opportunity to learn about Korean history and culture and the Korean American experience. The curriculum provides an understanding of Korean history, fosters an awareness of its rich culture, and makes available outstanding resources and lessons. Participants learn about Korea from prominent scholars, view engaging and informative films, explore Koreatown, savor delicious food, visit a Buddhist temple, view exquisite art, hear the unique sounds of Korean music, enjoy a lesson on the Changgo drum, observe teens performing traditional dances, learn the theory and experience the practice of martial arts, observe a traditional tea ceremony, and create art that reflects ancient tradition. Educators of all disciplines and grade levels are welcome. UCLA Extension credit is available. Fellowships (airfare, hotel stay in Koreatown, and additional funds for meals) will be available for teachers who live over 60 miles from the Los Angeles area. Title: CLTA Outstanding Teacher Awards and New Teacher Travel Awards
Body: The California Language Teachers' Association recognizes individual CLTA members who make significant contributions to the teaching of languages. Postmark deadline for applications is January 5, 2009. CLTA membership is required for both 2008 and 2009. CLTA offers grants for teachers with no more that 4 years of teaching experience to attend the CLTA Conference. Award amounts vary from year to year but are expected to be about $300 this year. The grant may be used for registration, travel, lodging, and meals. This grant usually has few or no applicants so your chances of receiving it could be good. Title: New York Classical Club President’s Fund
Body: From http://www.nyclassicalclub.org The New York Classical Club announces a new award program, The President's Grant, for those members of the Club who are interested in promoting Latin, ancient Greek, and classical Mediterranean civilizations in general. Grants will be given for a wide variety of purposes, as long as the applicant demonstrates that the money will be used to promote the field of Greek and Roman Classics. The Club envisions applications for professional development, purchases of classroom materials, promotion of class trips, or any other activity associated with classes in Greek and Roman languages and civilizations. Also welcome are applications for developing Classics clubs, travel to conferences, or staging of an ancient play for a wider audience. These activities are simply suggestions. All proposals are welcome. Grants of varying sizes will be considered. Applicants must be members of The New York Classical Club at the time of applying and for the 12 months during the funded period.
