Body: From http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/news/wales-news/2008/02/27/welsh-language-technology-gets-global-recognition-91466-20527919 Welsh language-technology gets global recognition Feb 27 2008 by Tomos Livingstone TECHNOLOGY aimed at helping businesses use the Welsh language has been so successful it is being copied as far afield as China and Sri Lanka. A small team at Canolfan Bedwyr, a unit at Bangor University, has for several years been creating Welsh-language computer spell-checkers, screen readers and synthetic voices. The unit – which brings together linguists and IT experts – also creates generic computer tools that can be adapted for use in other languages. Title: Easter Activities and Poem for German Class
Body: An AATG listserv user, Ann Schroeder, recently shared the following series of activities and accompanying resources: I have a list of matching (G-E) that I passed out and the first 3 to get them all correct got a "delectable treat" (candy). Then we used those words to play Bingo -- I used print-bingo.com to make cards. Everything is German - English. I just want them to recognize the words. The hook: The list, while mostly full of words like "cross, resurrection, egg, and Easter nest," also includes terms like "glue" and "broken off" -- they really wanted to know what those words have to do with Easter. I tell them, you have to wait 'til we read the poem I have planned." More delectable treats for bingo winners. (To keep them intrigued, I kept asking every time one of the weird words came up, "Now what DOES that have to do with Easter?" -- Hey, silly, but it worked!) After a few rounds of Bingo and hearing the vocab, kids should be pretty familiar with the words. Finally, we move on -- to the poem. In level two I had cut out sections (divided by me) and had them put them in order, but in level 1 we just read the poem together, which worked just fine. I had them read each sentence aloud in English. It's a cute little poem. All materials (the matching, the bingo, and the poem) can be found on my website: http://frauschroeder.pbwiki.com/For-German-Teachers . Scroll down to EASTER ACTIVITY. Schroeder, A.
