Title: Resources for Spanish-Speaking Library Patrons
Body: The resources on this site may be useful for teachers and speakers of Spanish as a heritage or foreign language. From http://www.sol-plus.net Welcome to the SOL (Spanish in Our Libraries) and PLUS (Public Libraries Using Spanish) websites. PLUS is a searchable resource bank that includes Spanish-language versions of common library forms, flyers, and signs as well as the Dewey Decimal classification system; book summaries; guides to the language and to library Spanish; programming ideas; and a lot more... SOL was an electronic newsletter that in the early years of this century connected librarians who serve Spanish speakers. Each issue gathered links, questions, and wisdom contributed by friends around the world. The full run is archived here.

Title: German Club Activity Idea
Body: My two goals this year are to increase German enrollment and to make German Club the happening place at our school. Here's something you, too, may want to try: Last Thursday, German Club hosted our first "Deutsch-Abend." We invited/recruited German speakers we know (parents, staff, other) to come to our classroom anytime between 5:30 and 7:00 pm. Students served up a simple Abendbrot - cold cuts, cheese, bread, pickles, Apfelsaft, Sprudel, and Schorle. We set desks and tables to form two long banquet like tables. Kids stayed after school to set up room, arrange platters and prepare for being waiters and waitresses. The RULE - between 5:30 and 7:00, only German could be spoken in the room. We had 33 in attendance - 19 adults and 14 students. Because the students were responsible for serving and had their own banquet table, they did not feel pressured to try to keep up with the adults' quick-paced conversations. But they could listen in, marvel, and perhaps be motivated to one day be able to do the same. Once the kids were done serving and had had a chance to eat, they had games they could play. They ended up playing a card game - all in German. Adult guests were asked to provide a small donation to help reimburse the club for the food. I got lots of positive feedback and we hope to make this a monthly event. Hill, P. [AATG-L] Deutsch-Abend at our school. American Association of Teachers of German listserv.
