Title: A Transdisciplinary Approach to International Teaching Assistants
Body:

From: https://linguistlist.org/issues/30/30-3916.html

North American universities’ dependence on international teaching assistants (ITAs) as a primary source of teaching labor has led many undergraduates and parents to criticize ITA’s linguistic competence. This book argues counter to that, stating that ITAs should be recognized as multilingual, skilled, migrant professionals who are discursively invaluable to the institutions who employ them. The chapters offer research that constitutes a transdisciplinary perspective and ultimately argues for the importance of dialogue between research and practice.

Title: Flawed Algorithms are Grading Millions of Students’ Essays
Body:

From: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/pa7dj9/flawed-algorithms-are-grading-millions-of-students-essays

As computerized grading for essays becomes a more readily available and affordable option for standardized tests, concerns arise around the accuracy of the grading. Vice’s investigation into computerized grading found that, just as human grading can be biased towards a particular gender or race, so can computerized grading. This article concludes that computers cannot account for insight or true understanding of knowledge in the way humans can leading to the implication that computerized grading must undergo significant development before it can be the sole grader of written exams.
