Title: Funding Opportunity: Support for LCTL Teachers to Attend Summer Institutes
Body: The University of Minnesota's Institute for Global Studies (IGS) and the European Studies Consortium (ESC) are pleased to provide a limited number of $600 stipends for teachers of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) to help defray the cost of attending any of the CARLA summer institutes. Applications are due by April 15, 2005, and stipend recipients will be announced by May 6, 2005. Title: Intertribal Wordpath Society Web Site
Body: From: http://www.ahalenia.com/iws/ The Intertribal Wordpath Society is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote the teaching, awareness, use, and status of Oklahoma Indian languages. IWS produces Wordpath, a weekly half-hour television show about Oklahoma Indian languages and the people who are teaching and preserving them. The show seeks to make the general public more aware of the importance of Indian languages and culture, to make language class information available to teachers and students, and to honor those who are teaching their languages. It has been running for about 9 years and we have produced 190 shows to date. These programs include: + A.A. in Early Childhood Education + A.A. in Elementary Education + B.A. in Elementary Education (the Diné Teacher Education Program – a collaborative program with Arizona State University) + M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (a collaborative program with Arizona State University) Some of our courses are also transferable to 4-year colleges for students who prefer to live at home during their first experiences in higher education.
