Title: Job Posting: MS German and Spanish, MA
Body: I'd like to mention that I am retiring this summer and leaving a wonderful position in Westford, MA. It's 2/3 German and 1/3 Spanish at Blanchard Middle School. Westford is the kind of town that people move to because of the schools. The Middle School language program (four languages, all three years) is taken very seriously by students, parents and the School Committee. http://www.westford.mec.edu Rasmussen, S. Title: Job Posting: HS French and Spanish, NY
Body: I teach at Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia, about halfway between Charlottesville and Richmond. We are in need of a teacher for next year. While the school system is posting on the web that we need a Spanish teacher, the position is currently a French and Spanish position (this year half of each). It would be a huge benefit to find someone who can teach both! If you are interested in the position or have questions, check out the school system's web page: www.lcps.k12.va.us Starmer, J. Title: Call for Papers: Academic Exchange Quarterly, Fall 2005
Body: From: http://rapidintellect.com/AEQweb/4bili.htm Academic Exchange Quarterly Fall 2005, Volume 9, Issue 3 Expanded issue up to 400+ pages. Articles on various topics plus the following special section: Bilingualism Among the 6000 estimated languages spoken in the world today, only half of them could still be spoken in a century. The principal contributing factors to the disappearance of languages are mass media and assimilationist submersion education systems where children and students are taught through the medium of dominant languages. In fact, research has shown that first language literacy and academic skills are an important support for the development of literacy and academic skills in the second language, and that bilingualism enhances cognitive flexibility. This issue will examine the role of educational systems in the acquisition and maintenance of bilingualism and all aspects of bilingual education. Topics of interest include: * Case studies of bilingual classrooms around the world * Evaluation studies of bilingual education programs * Assessment of bilingualism * Computer assisted language learning (CALL) for bilinguals * Bilingualism in higher education For more information, visit: http://rapidintellect.com/AEQweb/4bili.htm
