Identity and Dialect Performance: A Study of Communities and Dialects
Edited by Reem Bassiouney
Published by Routledge Taylor & Francis Group

Identity and Dialect Performance discusses the relationship between identity and dialects. It starts from the assumption that the use of dialects is not just a product of social and demographic factors, but can also be an intentional performance of identity. Dialect performance is related to identity construction and in a highly globalized world, the linguistic repertoire has increased rapidly, thereby changing our conventional assumptions about dialects and their usage.

Assessing Performance: Moving from Chapter Tests to Authentic Assessments
December 7, 2017
Monroe Township, New Jersey

It’s time to let go of chapter tests and focus on what really matters: what students can do with language! In this workshop, participants will look at how to transform traditional tests and quizzes into meaningful, authentic, and engaging assessments to demonstrate student progress using can-do statements, proficiency targets, and addressing the three modes. Hands-on and interactive, attendees will leave with draft assessments they can immediately begin using with students.
