Title: Open Course on Don Quixote
Body:
Yale University has made a course by Roberto González Echevarría about Don Quixote available as part of its Open Yale Courses series. Here is a course description: “The course facilitates a close reading of Don Quixote in the artistic and historical context of renaissance and baroque Spain. Students are also expected to read four of Cervantes’ Exemplary Stories, Cervantes’ Don Quixote: A Casebook, and J.H. Elliott’s Imperial Spain. Cervantes’ work will be discussed in relation to paintings by Velázquez. The question of why Don Quixote is read today will be addressed throughout the course. Students are expected to know the book, the background readings and the materials covered in the lectures and class discussions.”

Title: Blog Post: How a Standards-Based Rubric May Make Me a More Effective Teacher
Body:
From http://www.path2proficiency.com/
Rebecca Blouwolff describes her collaborative creation and adoption of a new standards-based presentational rubric along with a department-wide move to standards-based grading as follows: "My hope is that as we become more familiar with our rubric, I will sharpen my instruction so that it is more effective, and my students will internalize the rubric expectations so that more and more can exceed the course proficiency targets. In this way, our rubric’s “tail” will 'wag' us along the path to proficiency."

Title: Current Events and Media Literacy
Body:
Here are two recent resources for teaching current events and media literacy.
First, an article by Heather Wolpert-Gawron for Edutopia about teaching current events in the age of social media. She writes, "As adults, we bring our prior knowledge of history and our optimism about humanity to help us process and filter this inundation [of negative news]. Our students, however, do not have hindsight to combat their feelings of helplessness. They are surrounded by unfiltered current events—a rapid fire of negativity that can leave them vulnerable and overly anxious. ... Nevertheless, our students have to know about the world around them, and part of our job as educators is to prepare them for the realities of the world outside the classroom walls." Read her article at https://www.edutopia.org/article/teaching-current-events-age-social-media
Second, resources from Ana Cristina of CristinaSkyBox for teaching students to "reflect critically on news and media": http://cristinaskybox.blogspot.com/2017/11/news-and-media-literacy.html
