Title: TV News in Russia – Revolution and Identity
Body:

From http://geohistory.today/tv-news-in-russia-revolution-and-identity-november-2017/

2017 marked the centenary of the October Revolution. Much was written in the Western press about how Russia’s new identity and politics could be seen in how it chose to observe one of the 20th century’s most influential events.

This month’s TV News in Russia looks at how Russian media covered not only the centenary, but also other major factors now forming Russia’s identity: history, patriotism, Russia’s perceived place in the world, and how it defines the “other” (i.e., America). The telling and fascinating list is below, with extended commentary and links to the original reports.

According to a 2016 poll by the independent Levada Center, 80% of Russians view television as their primary source of news. The same Levada poll, however, shows that only 41% trust the news as an objective source of information. The broadcasts sampled here are from Russia’s most-watched channels: First Channel and Russia Channel from the Sunday news reports.

Title: Call for Proposals: Deutschlandjahr
Body:

From http://www.germany.info/Vertretung/usa/en/newsletter/Germany__In__Class/Germany-in-Class-201711.html

Deutschlandjahr is a comprehensive and collaborative public diplomacy campaign sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office, the Federation of German Industries (BDI), and the Goethe Institut with the goal of presenting today’s Germany to people across the entire U.S. Together we will show how closely the two countries are linked by heritage, common values, and shared interests. Deutschlandjahr will illustrate how we can have a brighter future if we tackle global challenges together.

Help celebrate by submitting ideas for projects that showcase our countries’ partnership in the areas of culture, education, science, and business. Proposals are due by January 20, 2018.

Have a great idea that should be part of Deutschlandjahr? It could be a German pop concert in Des Moines, a German engineering expo in Mobile, or another project that fosters dialogue and exchange. Deutschlandjahr's organizers invite cultural, educational, and scientific institutions, business and trade associations, and all organizations currently engaged in transatlantic dialogue to submit their project proposals through our online application system by January 20, 2018.

Title: Decoding the Secrets of the Ancient Maya on Google Arts & Culture
Body:

From https://www.blog.google/topics/arts-culture/british-museum-and-google-arts-culture-decoding-secrets-ancient-maya/

In the 19th century, the explorer Alfred Maudslay set out to capture and preserve the stories the Maya of Central America, one of the largest and most successful indigenous cultures in the world, with more than 2000 years of rich and vibrant history. For decades, he travelled through the region carrying tons of equipment on mule trains through the jungle and created the first glass plate photographs and plaster casts of some of the most important ancient Maya art from the region.

More than 100 years later, Google Arts & Culture and the British Museum are picking up where Maudslay left off. Now, visitors from around the world can explore the Maya’s rich heritage online and learn about their achievements in art, architecture, astronomy, mathematics and language.

In a new set of exhibits, you can rotate incredibly detailed 3D models of ancient Maya art, take 360 virtual tours of the ancient sites of Tikal and Quirigua, and dive into numerous multimedia exhibits and 12 magical Street View panoramas of ancient sites and museums across Guatemala.
