Title: Spanish songs for teaching the subjunctive
Body: Editor's note: A recent discussion on the FLTEACH listserv generated the following suggestions for using songs to teach the subjunctive. ----- Four songs that come to mind for teaching the subjunctive at the high school level are: 1. A Dios le pido (Juanes) 2. Ojala que llueva cafe (Juan Luis Guerra) 3. Que vuelvas (Shakira) 4. Que me quedes tu (Shakira) For interactive exercises to accomapny "Ojala que llueva cafe" go to Prof. Nelson's website at Colby College. The website she has created for Spanish teachers and their students is remarkable. It can be found at: http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/exercises/index.html Watson, G. Re: Spanish songs for the Subjunctive + useful websites for Spanish teachers. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (1 Nov. 2004). ----- I've never used this because I teach lower levels, but Thalia's "A Quien Le Importa" has lots of subjunctive. Sanchez, K. Re: Spanish songs for the Subjunctive + useful websites for Spanish teachers. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (1 Nov. 2004). ----- To reinforce the subjunctive tense, I've used Juan Luis Guerra's (I think that's his name) "Ojala que llueva cafe" . You can use it as a cloze exercise -- it's a catchy tune and the students enjoy it. Evans, P. Re: Spanish songs for the Subjunctive + useful websites for Spanish teachers. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (1 Nov. 2004). ----- "Que canten los niños" by José Luis Perales is a good one. Easy to understand and sing along with, also. Title: Language Games
Body: Editor's' note: A recent discussion on the FLTEACH listserv generated the following suggestions for games in the classroom. The first post is French- specific, but the second may be used for all languages. ----- My students do like games and the time on task seems to promote recall. For French, I often recommend Thierry Perrot's Jeu de l'oie, a chutes and ladder- like board game on the web. There are many good topics at a variety of levels and individual items recycle. More difficult is olyfran. Put either title in Google or the search field at www.merlot.org Also search le point du fle or flenet for games. Franklin, L. Re: Language Teaching games. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (29 Oct. 2004). ----- Yes, I use games. I don't use them every day or even every week. I use them when they fit with our current material and they teach or reinforce. I also use games that are easy to implement and easy to put away. Don't spend lots of time putting games together. There are many useful games that the students can make in little time and you'll have them for years. categories jeopardy memoire (concentration) white boards puzzles battleship hangman to name a few. Sandoval, A. Re: Language Teaching games. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (29 Oct. 2004).
