TitleSpanish songs for teaching the subjunctive
Body
Editor's note: A recent discussion on the FLTEACH listserv generated the
following suggestions for using songs to teach the subjunctive.

-----

Four songs that come to mind for teaching the subjunctive at the high school
level are:

1. A Dios le pido (Juanes)
2. Ojala que llueva cafe (Juan Luis Guerra)
3. Que vuelvas (Shakira)
4. Que me quedes tu (Shakira)

For interactive exercises to accomapny "Ojala que llueva cafe" go to Prof.
Nelson's website at Colby College. The website she has created for Spanish
teachers and their students is remarkable. It can be found at:

I've never used this because I teach lower levels, but Thalia's "A Quien Le
Importa" has lots of subjunctive.

To reinforce the subjunctive tense, I've used Juan Luis Guerra's (I think that's
his name) "Ojala que llueva cafe" . You can use it as a cloze exercise -- it's a
catchy tune and the students enjoy it.

"Que canten los niños" by José Luis Perales is a good one. Easy to
understand and sing along with, also.
