Workshop: Exploring the World of Design
Thursday, July 10, 2014
On the occasion of Vico Magistretti. A Traveling Archive, the exhibition on view thru July 31st dedicated to the great designer Vico Magistretti, the IIC will offer an opportunity to introduce children and families to the basic flow of the design process where imagination and creativity meet problem-solving and constraints. Employing role-playing and design challenges, children will experiment with using a variety of materials, from wire to foam to cardboard while learning about the role of different participants involved in the production of a design artifact.

Movie Screening: Mordraud

Mordraud is a short movie directed by Riccardo Piana based on a fantasy saga written by Fabio Scalini, released first digitally in 2013 and the presented as a book at Lucca Comics & Games 2014. The English translation of the first book of Mordraud, the role playing game and strategy game based on Mordraud’s location, and the short movie will all be presented at Comic-Con International 2014 in San Diego (July 24-27, 2014).

Title: New Portuguese Website Available

This summer, soccer fans the world over are enjoying o jogo bonito--that's Portuguese for "the beautiful game."
In honor of the 2014 World Cup and in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, COERLL is launching an exciting Portuguese podcast series called Língua de gente ('language of the people'). Each lesson includes a brief dialogue based on a common situation that you are likely to encounter in the Lusophone world.
In addition to the free podcast lessons, COERLL is partnering with OpenLanguage.com to provide Língua da gente materials for the tablet or mobile device. The COERLL lessons are free, but for a subscription to OpenLanguage.com, learners will receive additional resources for mobile learning (e.g. lesson exercises and flashcards).

The U.S. Department of State’s Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) program is bigger and better than ever! Selected eInterns spend 10 hours per week contributing to projects for an office or section from September 2014 through April 2015. eInterns play an important role in advancing the federal government’s reach in a variety of initiatives in positions such as:
· U.S. Department of State (State)
STATE-US-FSI-16 (Slavic, Pashto, and Persian Languages); Foreign Service Institute (FSI/SLS/SPP)
Duties: Format a Russian Reading Textbook in Adobe InDesign, including activity instructions, simple graphics, and glossaries. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign. Ability to transfer Microsoft Word documents to InDesign. Ability to manipulate simple graphics and tables in InDesign and Microsoft Word. Ability to work in black and white only. Ability to work with Microsoft Excel to format vocabulary lists for flashcard programs. Intermediate to Advanced Russian desired, but not required. Excellent editing skills in English desired.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in university level courses in the U.S. or abroad. Last year, we had students from undergraduate to PhD to part-time online students. A resume, transcript, and statement of interest are required as part of the application process. Interviews may be conducted in August. eInternships are unpaid and do not require a security clearance or travel.

Title: Bastille Day Party in Boston

The French Cultural Center presents its 39th annual Bastille Day Party on July 11, 6 PM – 11 PM.
Notably one of the largest Bastille Day Parties in the U.S., Back Bay's beautiful Marlborough Street will be blocked off between Berkeley and Clarendon Streets to accommodate 2,000 revelers dancing in the street. Delicious French food from some of Boston's best French restaurants and drinks will be available for sale, making this the only street party of its kind in Boston. The French Cultural Center Bastille Day will be a party in true French style with live music and dancing in celebration of community, cultural diversity, and friendship between nations.
