Title: Free French Listening Resources Podcast
Body: From http://www.ielanguages.com/frenchlistening.html Site creator’s description: Listening to a language while reading along with the transcript is a great way to improve your comprehension as well as your pronunciation. The following mp3s were created by native speakers of French and they are free for teachers and students to download. For the mp3s that have transcripts available, I've created individual pages so that you can now listen and read along if you prefer to work online. Each page will open in a new tab or window. Otherwise, you can simply download the mp3s and transcripts and take them with you on your mp3 player. I've left the transcripts in .txt format so that they can be viewed on iPod Nanos (transfer them to the Notes folder). I also post the podcasts at a traditional blog if you prefer the podcasts in the order in which they are uploaded, instead of grouped categorically as below. The French Listening Resources website is available at http://www.ielanguages.com/frenchlistening.html The sister blog is available at http://www.ielanguages.com/podcast

Title: Computer Assisted Screening Tool
Body: From http://larc.sdsu.edu/cast The purpose of the CAST diagnostic screening tool is to: 1) Elicit an adequate speech sample from examinees to assure a reliable floor (or baseline) rating 2) Provide feedback to the examinees on how their proficiency can be improved 3) Estimate examinees likely score on the official ACTFL OPI 4) Provide positive wash back for proficiency-based teaching. With the newly-added “reviewer” interface, the CAST can be effectively used by instructors as a tool to rate their students’ oral production and to increase their own understanding of the criteria by which ACTFL ratings are given. CAST tests advanced level speaking proficiency in nine languages, including Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino (Tagalog), Arabic (Modern Standard), Iraqi Dialect, Persian (Farsi), and English as a Second Language. CAST is available online at http://cast.sdsu.edu
