Title: 6th Annual Japan Foundation Film Series
Body: Each year, the Japan Foundation, New York organizes an annual film series at educational and cultural institutions in the US. Now in its 6th year, the series will rotate among a group of five institutions in the South and Asia Society in New York from September 13 through November 19, 2010. The series will be devoted to Japanese Cinema in the 1960s, showcased with five films by five of the period's most exceptional directors: Yearning (Midareru, 1964) dir. Naruse Mikio Kwaidan (Kaidan, 1964) dir. Kobayashi Masaki The Face of Another (Tannin no kao, 1966) dir. Teshigahara Hiroshi Age of Assassins (Satsujinkyo jidai, 1967) dir. By Claudine Beaumont September 30, 2010 Google Translate supports more than 50 languages, including minority languages such as Welsh and Haitian Creole, and the addition of Latin is sure to please scholars and traditionalists. Google expects translations to and from Latin to be among the most accurate offered by its Google Translate tool. “Unlike any of the other languages Google Translate supports, Latin offers a unique advantage: most of the text that will ever be written in Latin has already been written, and a comparatively large part of it has been translated in to other languages. “We use these translations, found in books and on the web, to train our system.” Google has also added a Latin text-to-speech function, too, to help people with their pronunciation. Title: Transculturación: Exploring the Nature of Language Through Pop Music
Body: From Zachary Jones of Actualidades: --- I'd like to share a new project that I'm calling "Transculturación". This project seeks to help students meet National Standards 4.1 and 4.2 by using English songs that are popular in the Spanish-speaking world to spark discussion on the nature of language through direct comparisons of L1 and L2. For instance, one activity uses Justin Bieber's "Baby" to highlight the differences between English's simple past tense and Spanish's two simple past tenses (preterite and imperfect). Another activity uses Ke$ha's "Your love is my drug" to contrast the use of the simple present tense in Spanish and the present progressive in English. Also, each worksheet includes an infographic called "Things that don't translate well".
