Title | Transculturación: Exploring the Nature of Language Through Pop Music |
Body | From Zachary Jones of Actualidades: --- I'd like to share a new project that I'm calling "Transculturación". This project seeks to help students meet National Standards 4.1 and 4.2 by using English songs that are popular in the Spanish-speaking world to spark discussion on the nature of language through direct comparisons of L1 and L2. For instance, one activity uses Justin Bieber's "Baby" to highlight the differences between English's simple past tense and Spanish's two simple past tenses (preterite and imperfect). Another activity uses Ke$ha's "Your love is my drug" to contrast the use of the simple present tense in Spanish and the present progressive in English. Also, each worksheet includes an infographic called "Things that don't translate well". The new worksheets and infographics can be found here: http://zachary-jones.com/spanish/transculturacion A more detailed description of my ideas for the project can be found here: http://zachary-jones.com/spanish/archives/23086 As the charts change, I plan on adding other English songs found in the Spanish-speaking Top 40 charts. I hope that these new activities prove useful and interesting to you! Saludos Zachary Jones, Z. [FLTEACH] Transculturación: Exploring the nature of language through pop music.
