Title: "Effective Use of the Internet in Language Teaching: What & How" and "Digital Audio and Video in Language Teaching: What & How "
Body: The Graduate School of Teaching and Learning (ILO) of the University of Amsterdam in co-operation with the Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University are presenting the courses: "Effective Use of the Internet in Language Teaching: What & How" and "Digital Audio and Video in Language Teaching: What & How ", to be held in Amsterdam from 17 until 23 August and from 24 until 30 August 2003 respectively. In these intensive courses participants will acquire specific knowledge about Internet applications and resources and/or digital audio and video relevant to foreign language teaching. The courses will help the participants to create language materials that they can use in their classroom practice. The emphasis will not be on technology itself, but on the methodological applications. These courses are intended for newly qualified and practising foreign language teachers interested in the possibilities of the Internet and/or digital audio and video for their classroom practice. A basic knowledge of computers is necessary: participants should at least be familiar with Windows platforms and word-processors. There will be no facilities available for Mac users. The courses offer a unique opportunity to learn together with colleges from other European countries and from other continents how Internet and its multimedia applications can be used quickly and effectively in language lessons. The social and cultural evening programme offers an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and for enjoying. The course fees are Euro 795 and 850 respectively and include: lunches during the course, tea and coffee, the course dinner and free access to the cultural evening programme of The Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University. The courses have been approved by the European Commission for inclusion in the Comenius - Grundtvig / Catalogue. Teachers in secondary education may be eligible for grants within this framework. Body: NCES established the Postsecondary Education Quick Information System (PEQIS) to collect timely data on focused postsecondary education issues needed for program planning and policy development with a minimum burden on respondents. In addition to obtaining information on emerging issues quickly, PEQIS surveys are also used to assess the feasibility of developing large-scale data collection efforts on a given topic or to supplement other NCES postsecondary surveys. This new web site includes access to many publications in an easy to use web format as well as downloadable data files. To use this web site please visit: http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/peqis/ The Fast Response Survey System (FRSS) was designed to meet the data needs of Department of Education analysts, planners, and decision makers when information could not be collected quickly through traditional NCES surveys. Data collected through FRSS surveys are representative at the national level, drawing from a universe that is appropriate for each study. FRSS collects data from local education agencies, public and private elementary and secondary schools, elementary and secondary school teachers and other school staff, as well as other educational organizations and participants. Familiarity with Japanese animations. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline preferred; evidence of successful teaching in the fields of Japanese, Japanese Studies, Asian Studies, Film and Electronic Arts, or related disciplines. Preference for evidence of successful California State University teaching experience. DUTIES: Teach a Japanese animation course. Monday 4:00 pm to 6:45 pm in Fall 2003. SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with training and experience. Probable ranges: $623 to $699 per month for six months for a 3-unit course. Familiarity with Japanese animations. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline preferred; evidence of successful teaching in the fields of Japanese, Japanese Studies, Asian Studies, Film and Electronic Arts, or related disciplines. Preference for evidence of successful California State University teaching experience. DUTIES: Teach a Japanese animation course. Monday 4:00 pm to 6:45 pm in Fall 2003. SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with training and experience. Probable ranges: $623 to $699 per month for six months for a 3-unit course.
