Description: TPRS is a method that is revitalizing German programs. Come learn how to use TPRS in your classroom or improve your TPRS skills. This workshop is taught by Julie Baird (Wawasee High School, Syracuse, IN), Rob Williams (Fairfax High School, Fairfax, VA), and Hank Schwab (North Brunswick Township High School, New Brunswick, NJ), three respected German TPRSers. The workshop is arranged with a combination of break-out sessions and whole group instruction to cover the needs of beginners through experienced TPRS teachers. Title: G. Richard Tucker Fellowship
Body: From http://www.cal.org/about/tuckerfellow.html The G. Richard Tucker Fellowship program for master’s and doctoral students in language-related fields is now entering its 19th year. During the period of June 2010 through May 2011, including a four-week residency at CAL in Washington, DC, the Fellow will interact with senior staff members on one of CAL's existing research projects or on a suitable project suggested by the Fellow. The fellowship pays a stipend plus travel expenses. Priority will be given to proposals that focus on all types of language education and testing or on language issues related to minorities in the United States or Canada. Title: Turkish Language and Literature Lecturer Position Announcement, Stanford University
Body: The Department of Comparative Literature at Stanford University invites applications for a two-year renewable lecturer position in Turkish Language and Literature, beginning September 2010. We are seeking a skilled instructor with a commitment to a proficiency-based approach to language teaching at all levels, and an interest in ongoing professional development in language pedagogy. Responsibilities include teaching six courses per academic year (i.e. 2 courses per academic quarter), developing a Turkish language and culture program, and collaborating with other Stanford units in enhancing Turkic language instruction. The lecturer will teach Turkish language courses as well as courses that draw on modern literary, social, political, cultural and/or sociolinguistic topics related to the Turkish language and that are appropriate to the appointee's research and expertise. Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in modern Turkish; 2) excellent command of English; 3) extensive experience in teaching modern Turkish as a second language in a college or university environment; 4) an M.A. in Turkish studies or an allied field of the humanities. Ph.D. in the above-mentioned disciplines is highly preferred. A background in literature is an asset. Command of Ottoman Turkish and/or Turkic languages is highly desirable.
