With the growth of state and federal accountability, including the Federal No Child Left Behind Act, the need to improve the academic achievement of English learners has never been greater. One strategy for improving the reading development of English learners is to promote family literacy activities, such as the frequency and quality of shared storytelling and reading books. Keynote Speakers: Marjorie Faulstich Orellana, Ph.D. -- UCLA, Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences Author of several studies (Harvard Educational Review, Reading Research Quarterly) on the role of immigrant children as translators and interpreters for their families.
