Title: News Article: Mexico, Illinois Join to Supply Bilingual Teachers
Body: From http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=133790&src=1 Mexico, Illinois join to supply bilingual teachers By Emily Krone February 13, 2008 The Mexican government will help Illinois schools recruit Mexican teachers for bilingual classrooms under a new program announced Tuesday during Mexican President Felipe Calderon's visit to Chicago. Illinois school districts have recruited Spanish-speaking teachers from abroad for years, as the state's English learner population exploded and demand for qualified bilingual teachers far outstripped local supply. The program announced Tuesday would take much of the burden of international recruitment off individual districts. Read the entire article at http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=133790&src=1 .

Title: News Article: Learning From a Native Speaker, Without Leaving Home
Body: From http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/business/17novel.html?_r=2&th=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&emc=th&adxnnlx=1203256999-K1esO/z2Wb+2tOFKP5d+AA&oref=slogin Learning From a Native Speaker, Without Leaving Home By ANNE EISENBERG February 17, 2008 THE best way to learn a foreign language may be to surround yourself with native speakers. But if you can’t manage a trip abroad the Internet and a broadband computer connection may do the job, too, bringing native speakers within electronic reach for hours of practice. Web-based services now on the market let people download a daily lesson in French or Hindi, pop on their headsets, and then use Internet telephone service and the power of social networks to try their conversational skills with tutors or language partners from around the world. Title: Praxis Pilot Sites Needed
Body: ETS, along with a national Advisory Committee and ACTFL representatives, is currently redesigning the Praxis Series for Beginning teachers and needs your feedback! These are new assessments used in licensing entry-level foreign languages teachers. Critical to the validity of these new Praxis test series is research into the psychometric properties of all test questions. Therefore, a pilot study will be conducted in December 2008 to obtain feedback and data on new item prototypes. By making your institution available as an official pilot site, you and your students will have unique insights into the expectations of teacher licensure assessments. Completing these designed questions is an excellent preparation for an assessment that will be critical to your students' effort to become licensed teachers! If you, or a colleague, can have the pilot study administered in your institution, we invite you to take part. To sign up, download and complete a reply form from (http://www.mmsend2.com/ls.cfm?r=14996827&sid=3443114&m=432029&u=ACTFL&s=http://www.magnetmail.net/images/clients/ACTFL/attach/REPLY_FORM_PraxisWLPilotStudy.doc . To learn more about what is involved and the honorarium available to each participant, download an information letter from http://www.mmsend2.com/ls.cfm?r=14996827&sid=3443115&m=432029&u=ACTFL&s=http://www.magnetmail.net/images/clients/ACTFL/attach/PraxisCoverLtr.doc .
