The modules include photographs that help to establish a context for the exchanges. The modules focus on high frequency communicative functions such as: asking for directions, asking for permission, expressing preference, and giving compliments. Some possible uses for the modules are as: a part of a placement exam, a part of a comprehensive exit exam, a part of a course's instructional materials, a pre-departure assessment for study abroad students, and an overall evaluation of teaching assistant candidates.
