The Deutsche Sommerschule von New Mexico is an academic program of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of The University of New Mexico in consortium with California State University Long Beach.

The program is located in the Taos Ski Valley, a picturesque village nestled in the Sangre de Christo Mountains of Northern New Mexico. In close proximity to Taos and Santa Fe, Taos Ski Valley has the charm of an Alpine village. This secluded and beautiful site allows students to focus on participating fully in a German-speaking environment.

This year's session will run from June 23 to July 24.

TESOL’s 2015 International Convention and English Language Expo will take place March 25-28, 2015, in Toronto, Canada. The Electronic Village is a set of concurrent sessions that may be attended remotely. The Electronic Village (EV) and the Technology Showcase are hosted by the Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Interest Section. Conference attendees can explore computer-based and other technology resources for language teaching and learning in face-to-face classrooms and online. Highlights include the latest in CALL technology and teaching, such as presentations and demonstrations by teachers, software and web designers, curriculum specialists, CALL authors, and other CALL practitioners. Topics include multimedia, Internet-based resources, classroom tools and mobile technology devices and applications.

Congress is working to update the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) formerly known as No Child Left Behind. None of the versions of the new Act—Senate, House, Republican, Democratic—have any dedicated programming for world languages.

Find out how you can lend your voice to those of the 13,000 language educators of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and the 103 organizational members of the Joint National Committee for Languages, by letting the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions know that languages matter.

This year, all sessions and workshops will take place at this hotel, including an "Advocacy 101" session on Wednesday evening for new delegates and anyone who wants to learn more specifics about advocacy in preparation for meetings with congressional staff on Thursday and Friday.

"The Oregon Board of Education is working towards adoption of a process for local school districts to award Biliteracy Seals to the high school graduation diplomas of students who earn them.

"...Five school districts will be piloting Biliteracy Seals this school year. Then, the Board of Education will consider any needed changes and work towards permanent adoption for the 2015-16 school year."

Title: Summer Study Abroad in Laos

The Center for Lao Studies (CLS), dedicated to promoting and advancing the field of Lao Studies, is sponsoring its annual Summer Study Abroad in Laos program (SAIL) in the summer of 2015. During the five week‐long program, students will partake in language and cultural lessons at the Lao‐American College (LAC), with private instruction by professors from the National University of Laos. Participants will also have the opportunity to study Lao history and culture, augment their academics with cultural trips throughout the area, and experience volunteering with various organizations.

SAIL is open to undergraduate and graduate students, educators, and education administrators, as well as those interested in Lao, Lao American, Southeast Asian, and Asian cultures and society. Participants must be 18 years or older.

Program dates are: June 27 – July 31, 2015.

Title: Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute 2015

SEASSI is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduates, graduate students and professionals. This year's program will run from June 15 to August 7. Instruction is offered for academic credit in eight languages at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year levels. Languages offered are Burmese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Each language course is equivalent to two semesters of study, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language.

The general application deadline as well as the tuition scholarship deadline is April 1.
