Title: Speech Recognition Add-On for Google Documents
Body:

From http://edtechnut.blogspot.ca

In this blog post, Kelly shows how to add a speech recognition tool to our Google documents. She recommends using it to promote writing among students who have poor handwriting or typing skills because they can just record themselves and the tool will do the typing for them. However, this add-on offers many more uses in language teaching. For example, learners can get immediate feedback on their pronunciation because the tool may or may not recognize their utterances. This is especially useful with non-phonemic languages like English or French to develop students’ awareness of the differences between spelling and pronunciation, but it could work with other languages too.

Title: Approaches to Inclusive English Classrooms. A Teacher’s Handbook for CBI
By Kate Mastruserio Reynolds
Published by Multilingual Matters

This book provides educators with an accessible guide to best practices concerning content-based instruction (CBI) models and their use in English learner inclusive classrooms. The author effectively bridges the gap between theory and practice with a critical analysis of practical examples and diverse strategies for the inclusion of English learners into K-12 general education courses. The book also raises controversial questions regarding who is qualified to teach English learners and who is responsible for doing so, looking at the difficulties faced by both general educators and ESL teachers in inclusive classrooms. By providing a lens through which both ESL teachers and general educators are able to analyze, compare and contrast a range of widely-employed CBI methods, this book allows teachers to make informed decisions in their EL program development and work with English learners in K-12 schools.

Recognition of ASL: 50 Years in the Making
Reflect, Celebrate, Dream
June 24—27, 2015
Bloomington, Minnesota

As stated on the website: “We will remember and honor Dr. William Stokoe for his groundbreaking research and discovery that our signing is language. Our conference and theme reflect our pride in our language and the 50 years we’ve put in teaching and research resulting in a strong foundation for future scholarship. Our keynotes, workshops, and poster sessions should all reflect this theme and promote best practices within our field of language and cultural teaching, mentoring, assessment, and research. From this reflection we will think, celebrate, and imagine 'Where do we want to go in the future for ASL?'. On behalf of Minnesota Loon American Sign Language Teachers Association as host for 2015 Conference, we are looking forward to seeing your participation to showcase your expertise and knowledge.”
